  • “A total of 22 persons infected with the outbreak-associated strains of Listeria monocytogenes have been reported from 7 states. The number of infected persons identified in each state is as follows: Colorado (12), Indiana (1), Nebraska (1), New Mexico (4), Oklahoma (1), Texas (2), and West Virginia (1). Two deaths have been reported, one in Colorado and one in New Mexico.” – Centers for Disease Control (CDC)  press release

  • Job cuts announced – “The Lancaster County Cooperative Extension office, one of the largest in Pennsylvania, is eliminating three positions as Penn State copes with a 19 percent budget cut from Gov. Tom Corbett.   • POLICE LOG: MARIETTA: Ervin L. Nell, 50, of 613 W. Market St., Marietta, and Charles R. Chambers, 32, of 26 Thornapple Drive, Marietta, were charged in what police called a “road rage” incident Friday in the 300 block of North Decatur Street. – MARIETTA: Jeremie M. Winter, 23, of 539 E. Hazel St., Marietta, was charged after he shoved a person during a domestic dispute Sept. 8 at his home, police said. The victim suffered a minor injury. – MARIETTA: Brittney R. Harven, 22, of Mapleton Depot, was charged after she repeatedly sent unwanted text messages to a person Aug. 25. – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era
  • And they are considering going on strike. “(Pennsylvania Turnpike) toll collectors’ wages now start at $19.76 an hour and rise to a maximum of $22.69 after three years.” Evidently there is a potential for a strike as early as the end of September; read this article here. – York Daily Record
  • Are these “public servants gone wild?” This Associated Press story might suggest that: “Even as leading Democrats offered assurances to the contrary, government experts repeatedly warned that a new long-term care insurance plan could go belly up, saddling taxpayers with another underfunded benefit program, according to emails disclosed by congressional investigators.” Read the article (and gag and choke) here.
