Dream come true – young man gets his bear in hunt of a lifetime

Tex MacDonald of McKerrow and his brother, Joe, provided the terminally ill 20-year-old with a hunt of a lifetime taking down a fair-sized Black Bear. “MCKERROW – A young man from Pennsylvania had a dream come true, thanks to a local hunting guide.

“Tex(as) MacDonald of McKerrow headed up the hunt of a lifetime for Michael Enochs from Columbia, Pennsylvania. Enochs, at the tender age of 15, signed up as a volunteer Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) volunteering at the local hospital. He had also joined the local Hellam Fire Company and decided to pursue his interests by attending York College in York, PA.

“Last October, at the age of 20, he was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness.

“MacDonald shared how he and Enoch met up for the once-in-a-lifetime experience with the Mid-North Monitor.

“‘Michael’s father, Larry, was working in Red Lion, PA setting up displays that he builds for a living and was telling a co-worker, Nate Newman, about Michael’s recently diagnosed illness and his dream of going on a hunting trip for Black Bear,’ explained MacDonald. ‘Nate told Larry he should contact the Hunt of a Lifetime (HOAL) organization as they do that sort of thing for young folks who are ill.’

“‘So, Larry checked out the website and got a hold of Fritz Grant who is the Ambassador for HOAL in Pennsylvania. After all the paper work was done by Michael’s doctor, arrangements were made for a hunt for Michael in the spring of 2011 in Quebec, Canada.’

“However, a couple of problems arose just before the scheduled bear hunt. About three weeks prior to the hunt, Michael became ill again and had to spend some time in the hospital.”
