  • NASA satellite re-entry update. “At 10:30 p.m. Friday, NASA said the satellite’s reentry into the Earth’s atmosphere was expected between 11:45 p.m. Friday and 12:45 a.m. Saturday. The risk to public safety is very remote.” Seems it’s landed, but where? (SOURCE: New York Times)
  • An article in the current issue of Consumer Reports  notes that “some merchants are giving customers the option of taking an electronic receipt or none at all instead of a paper receipt.” There are obvious advantages for the seller, but the report “advises you to take your receipt.” There are lots of reasons including privacy ones. – http://www.consumerreports.org.

  • One of the topics discussed at the finance committee meeting this week was “recycling.” It’s important for Columbia’s citizens to know that there are residual financial effects for the Borough when you recycle. In addition to “clear glass; colored glass; plastics; aluminum; steel and bimetallic cans; high grade office paper; corrugated paper and newsprint” … cardboard and corrugated paper is also a valuable recyclable commodity.
