Last night’s meeting ran just over two hours, with a 20 minute break an “executive session” for councilors, the mayor, the borough manager and solicitor to meet separately, ostensibly, to discuss the handling of agenda items 20 (a), (b) and (c).

There were approximately 20 citizens, including three Columbia youths who were there to observe government in action as an assignment for a Lancaster Catholic High School government class, in attendance as well as the full contingent of councilors, the mayor, borough manager and the borough assistant secretary/treasurer. Council president Mary Wickenheiser called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.

All of the agenda items listed, except 20 (b) and (c) were approved by council. Following the “executive session,” borough manager Norm Meiskey asked that those items be tabled “until the Norfolk Southern agreement is completed.

There was citizen discussion concerning the terms of the Safe Harbor land donation and the borough’s consequent plan of action to turn the property over to the Columbia Economic Development Corporation for resale to the cabin owners association.
