  • There’s a new sign on the Fourth & Locust Streets building (formerly the M&T Bank) says Urgent Care Center-Columbia. The logo on the sign looks like this one (below). There are Urgent Care Centers currently operating in Lancaster and Gap. Here is some more information about the services generally available at these kinds of facilities.
  • An eight-hour AARP driver-safety class will be held Friday, Oct. 21, at the Manor Township Municipal Building, 950 West Fairway Drive, Lancaster, PA. The class will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a one-hour break for lunch. Those wishing to attend should register by Wednes­day, Oct. 19. To register, call 299-5231 or email Cpl.   • Study: Wash Grocery Bags Or Face Possible Contamination (Washington, DC)  —  A new study shows that if you use reusable bags for groceries, you should make sure to wash them to get rid of bacteria that may be piling up. University of Arizona Microbiologist Dr. Charles Gerba says large numbers of bacteria including E. coli and coliform bacteria were found in almost all bags that were tested in his study. Gerba says he was surprised to learn that only three-percent of shoppers surveyed acknowledged they washed their reusable bags between uses. Gerba says it’s also important to store the bags properly. Keeping them in the hot trunk of a car, for example, could lead to even more bacteria wth. – Ozarksfirst.com
