  • JoePa will retire at the end of the season: AP report (SOURCE: Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era) Page one news in Lincoln, Nebraska too.
  • ” … and now the end is near” begins the great Sinatra song; New York Times article says the end is near. The greatest empires collapse under the cloak of secrecy!
  • One of our friends, a fire chief in the Chicago area, told us several years ago that all leaders will sometime face that CEM. He related that every fire officer will be defined by his/her response to the “career enhancing moment” or the “career ending moment.” Or as American cartoonist, Scott Adams said less eloquently, “One ‘oh s%*t’ can erase a thousand attaboys.’ Read this “What was Joe thinking?” opinion here.

  • Yesterday, in Cleveland, OH, “An Election Day poll worker tried to bite off a voter’s nose during an argument Tuesday over a campaign sign, police and election officials said.” – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era [EDITOR’S NOTE: We did not encounter any actions like that as a poll worker in a Lancaster County community.]
  • In an opinion column in today’s Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era, Robert Reich writes that, “The two worlds are on a collision course: Americans who are losing their jobs or their wages and can’t pay their bills are growing increasingly desperate. Washington insiders, deficit hawks, regressive Republicans, diffident Democrats, mainstream pundits, well-coiffed lobbyists and the lobbyists’ wealthy patrons on Wall Street and in corporate suites haven’t a clue or couldn’t care less.”
  • Interestingly, in contrast to hiding budget information (see above, “Marietta”), a church we visited recently had copies of the church’s budget for the taking at their information table! When spending money that comes from the people served; this church gets it! Why doesn’t government?
