- Most Lancaster County districts earn state’s top ratings for their students’ academic growth in 2010. “Only two districts had red ratings overall — Columbia in math and Octorara in reading. Columbia superintendent Barry Clippinger said the district needs to do a better job assuring students who are already proficient or advanced on the PSSA continue to make progress. Columbia recently implemented a Response to Intervention program in grades four through eight that provides academic supports and enrichment opportunities for all students, he said. The district also is placing more emphasis on teaching students to read nonfiction in multiple subjects, Clippinger said, to boost literacy. ‘I would like to see a greater growth for us across all levels,’ he said. ‘Right now, we’re not doing that for all the kids.'” – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era.
