  • In addition to being named Section III Wide Receiver of the Year, “Columbia senior Michael Burke IV earned first-term honors at three different positions” – Wide Receiver, Defensive Back, Punter – at last night’s L-L League All-Star banquet.” Additionally, Seth Lefever earned first-team honors as Outside Linebacker. Dion Matthews, Defensive End, was named to the second-team.   • “Fewer civilians have family connections to the military, according to the results of a recent Pew Research Center study. Researchers noted an age gap, with more than three quarters of adults age 50 and older saying they had an immediate family member who has served in the military, but only 39 percent of adults under the age of 30 saying the same. ‘With the shrinking size of the military in recent decades there are now fewer connections between the military and the civilian world,’ Pew’s report said.” – GovernmentExecutive.com

But the news gets worse from here. Next year there will be a record number of exceedingly annoying political ads.

  • POLICE LOG: “COLUMBIA: Amanda M. Poole, 18, of Columbia, was cited with purchase, consumption, possession or transportation of alcohol, and for public drunkenness, in the 400 block of Union Street on Nov. 23.
