Quote for today … “It were not best that we should all think alike; it is difference of opinion that makes horse races.” – Mark Twain
- Final Score: Tide falls to Penns Manor, 41-22
- Another pre-game assessment: Keith Schweigart’s analysis – “I think this one comes down to which defense establishes itself. Columbia has improved significantly in that area since its late-season swoon, and the Tide is certainly capable of winning a shootout if the game breaks that way. In fact, you could argue that Columbia will be in a much better position if a track meet breaks out. But I don’t think it will. As the old saying goes, defense wins championships — or in this case, state playoff quarterfinal showdowns.”

- “If you want to understand why the Occupy movement has found such traction, it helps to listen to a former banker like James Theckston. He fully acknowledges that he and other bankers are mostly responsible for the country’s housing mess.” This line leads the opinion column written by New York Times columnist Nicholas D. Kristoff that assigns blame where it belongs … big banking, (aided by a pathetic, bought-and-paid-for legislature) in this country.
