- There’s a Paul Krugman column on the editorial pages of today’s Intelligencer Journal/New Era; entitled, “Recession? No, it’s a depression.” This column was initially published a few days ago in The New York Times. Krugman’s one of a small slice of watchers who identified the economic picture over a year ago.
- “Penn Township supervisors moved its public meeting from the municipal building to a church sanctuary Monday. That allowed more than 100 residents and a lawyer to sit down for a four-hour discussion of a proposed real estate tax hike. Supervisors are scheduled to vote on the tax increase on Dec. 27. Penn Township’s property tax levy has held at 0.812 of a mill for the past 14 years, but it could nearly double to 1.6 mills in 2012. “We’re angry with how you’ve been spending our money,” resident Jill Groff told township leaders from her seat at Manheim Brethren in Christ Church on North Penryn Road.” – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era

- “The annual Columbia-area distribution of Christmas food boxes will take place Sunday, and organizers are seeking volunteers to help with the effort. Organizers this year hope to deliver 550 food baskets, which include a turkey, potatoes, apples, milk, eggs, bread, cheese, soups, filling, cereal, canned goods and possibly a gift from Toys for Tots for families with children. The distribution is organized by the Columbia Lions Club, along with the Sunsnappers organization, and provides a holiday meal to needy families in the Columbia, Wrightsville, Marietta and Mountville areas.
