Last evening, a 6:30 pm walk along Manor Township’s recently opened “Enola Low Grade“ trail seemed to be a late summer promenade. Several dozen cars – many sporting bike racks – lined the parking area. And we noticed lots of families, couples and singles riding and walking down the trail that follows the Susquehanna.
This post from www.explorePATrails.com says, “This newly opened segment has a great stone and stone dust surface, which makes for an easy ride. The 60 space parking lot was full on this the first weekend that the trail was open. All age groups were using the trail from under 10’s to seniors. joggers, cyclists, and walkers were all out enjoying a cloudless day with temp in the 70’s and low humidity. Beautiful views of the SusQ river. I would suggest that since the cliffs shade the trail up until noon, that Summer rides take place in the morning, and Afternoon for cooler weather days.”
The map posted on a board showed several toilet facilities (including handicap accessible ones) along the five-mile trail that runs the rail line south to Safe Harbor.
The views are spectacular; note the safety fencing that separates the trail from the tracks.
There are also several strategically placed benches along the trail as well as photo opportunity ramps and pedestals; these, too, are marked on the trail map.
Early on, there’s a beautifully restored caboose – a tribute to railroading.
Signage about the caboose and its history. Hats off to Manor Township for producing this trail delicacy.
A rider.
And the turbines quietly send a slight rumbling noise as you walk by.
