“Wrightsville plans to redevelop the borough’s Riverfront Park, part of a larger effort to attract tourists and business to the region.

A master plan for the park along the Susquehanna River offers a variety of ideas: a playground with a railroad theme to tie in the history of the York & Wrightsville Railroad, an elevated pier that would extend from the shoreline to the first stone pier of a former bridge, an amphitheater, trails, ballfields and more.

The next step is to hire a project manager to oversee and seek grants for the $4.7 million project, Wrightsville Mayor Neil Habecker said.

The York County Commissioners recently approved giving a total of $90,000 over three years, beginning in 2014, in support of the revitalization project, county administrator Chuck Noll said. The money will come from fracking fees from the Marcellus Shale Legacy Fund.

  1. It’s nice to see a riverfront community like Wrightsville saw the value in the river front property they own. Unlike their neighbor across the river who gave away their riverfront property to less than 17 Columbia families, instead of developing it for all 10,000+ residents and potentially thousands more visitors to enjoy!!!

  2. On the surface this project seems to be a good idea, but let us hope the planners seriously consider the fact that the mighty Susquehanna floods its banks.

  3. Now that York County has paid over 10 Million to acquire the High Point Park land above Wrightsville, you would think that they could approve more then $90,000. for a river front park ! That won’t even pay for the engineering !!
