“Scenes seen” around town recently

crazy corkeys.pdf

There’s a new business operating in the building just south of the Columbia Historic Market House at 17-19 South Third Street. Gene and Pat McCorkle are the proprietors of Crazy Corkey’s Kettle Corn. We spoke with him about the business. Gene’s retired from the United States Post Office, so many Columbians are apt to recognize him from his affable personality and quick smile. Crazy Corkey’s Kettle Corn is the official Kettle Corn of the York Revolution.

partner in kettleworksChatted with one of the partners in the new Columbia Kettle Works a few days ago. Rod Smith (above) and Bill Collister have been working on structuring a brew pub which is targeted to open around the end of March or thereabouts. The interior work they’ve been doing is splendid. Rod says he’s so eager to get finished and have the business open for business. The interior photos shown above have been taken from The Columbia Kettle Works facebook page; take a look – the pictures show the quality and attention-to-detail that’s going into this place. Fine crafted beers in a really nice environment sounds like a nice combination.

IMG_20131221_141830It’s taking shape; and it’s looking like it’ll take over a huge part of what was the grassy part of Riverfront Park. Notice the list of sugar daddy organizations.

babys team waiting for inkThose folks waiting for ink?

historic signageSome of the historic signage in the historic district. Sure bet this wouldn’t play in some other county towns.

gas station or notIs this a “for real” gas station or not? On Tuesday, December 24 for the second time the pumps are shut down and there are no gas prices. WTF?

chopstickWTF, II? The sign is a change in this eating place on 462. Planning is everything!

sunset_2Sunset on Christmas eve. More good news; each day get’s a little longer.

  1. The gas station has had paper bags over the hoses too on both sides so that is a good indicator that they are shutting down; and the Chinese place has a We are Closed sign on it for some time now, What i want to know is WTF is this abomination that they are doing down at the River Park??? You know that some people in this town are struggling to pay for the small properties that they have- and we are going to have our tax money go for this???? Who voted to accept the plans for this structure anyways??? It is a gross over extention for this area -and who i wonder is going to maintain it and clean up. When this town goes tits up can we apply for a bail out???

    • Wouldn’t it be most appropriate for the newly seated members of the Parks and Recreation Board to be volunteering to take care of this. At least the opening and closing of the building so that we, the taxpayers, are not paying the Police Officers to do this! Where are the volunteers in this borough????

  2. Went by the “some days it is & some days it’s not” gas station about 2:10 pm today (Sunday) and, guess what? The gas prices are posted and there are lights on inside the store. Appears today is one of the days it is a gas station.

  3. Awgeedawggy, you may be the most negative person to ever post a comment on this blog, do see any good (in anything ) in the town of Columbia?
Do u like to fish, kayak, walk trails enjoy the river scenery, boat , hike etc. all of which can be done at the RP. Small minded thinking is out of style, would u consider running for a borough office to residents would have the benefit of your wisdom, leadership and forward thinking?

  4. “Those folks” in the photo are waiting for the little baby to awaken, so they can take him in to get a tattoo. Just sayin’… Also, Awgeedawggy, the Exxon station has a gas price at the pumps: 23.9! There certainly would have been a rush on gasoline, so he must have run out. That’s why the signs are down on the sign. 🙂 I like the “Sunset on Christmas eve photo. In addition, the fire hydrant in “The historic District” photo isn’t exactly historic, either. Happy New Year to all. Be safe out there tonight!
