  1. In regard to your quote by Lao Tze, Bob Dylan wrote something similar in a song from years ago. I may not have his exact words, but, here is what I remember – “If you don’t start swimming, you will sink to the bottom.” Both quotes are great observations of how, when faced with reality, such as climate change, a disease, etc., the first response by most humans is denial. It often takes a long time for them to reach the acceptance stage, and
    finally face the situation, which so often is far too late.

  2. This one, too, comes to mind. It’s an old military ditty (old meaning from the ’70s or thereabout).

    “When you’re up to your ass in alligators, it’s easy to forget you came to drain the swamp.”

    Or in the same vein, “When you’re in a deep hole, quit digging.”
