today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today… When I read these reports, I’m so very glad these inspections take place.” robbieawilson93, commenter at the LancasterOnLine article about restaurant inspections in Lancaster County.

  • Borough Website is beginning to share community news: “Resurfacing of Union St. from S. 3rd to S. 4th to begin Monday, June 30, 2014. Expect road closures and try to make alternative parking arrangements during this project. Thank you for your cooperation.”

litter-letter project

  • York’s adopted the LITTER LETTER Project. “It’s a “3-D messaging system of letters constructed from chicken wire and rebar, filled with litter and trash collected from the community. Created by graphic designer and educator Rachael Hatley as a tool for social change to address the litter collected daily in front her property along the highway in Louisiana, The Litter Letter Project is now spreading into other states to raise awareness and educate on the impact of litter on our environment.” – Cultural Alliance of York County
  • “No crap” – Telling comment from Cole Umber’s news site:Steph Weisser has a cottage along the river. I believe the reason her, Leo and Wickenheiser are against the sale is this. Once LASA has our sewer diverted to their plant and it is no longer going into the river, who will there be to blame for the pollution that is STILL going into the river? Who will the cottage owners hide behind then? How many portapotties are on the islands right now? How many along the river? Where is THEIR sewer going right now?”

trash cans

  • Not overflowing, but filled. More trash cans now have appeared at River Park to collect the residue of a great weather weekend. Yep, alcohol’s already in evidence at the Park. At last Monday’s meeting a former councillor suggested that that alcohol might be allowed at the new Trail Services building for weddings, etc. and that would allow Columbia to be competitive to the John Wright setting across the River. Didn’t Columbia have the opportunity to have people have competitive, and even better setting? Yep, it did. But the councillors decided to cede away that setting. Ral Donner had it right! See more about Ral below.
  • Restaurant inspections in Lancaster County: “Rippit – Rippit: There’s always a packed parking lot at this “amphibian-named” place; wonder whether folks come for the food service violations. And too many violations to mention at this “lizard lounge.” Perhaps frogs and dragons are not real picky about food prep – heck, they eat flies. – LancasterOnLine
  • A complete listing of all inspections at food serving facilities in Lancaster, York counties and the entire state, except those in Columbia – Columbia persists in having its own inspection system with its own forms and inspection items – rather than the one used statewide, is available at the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Website.
  • Ral Donner had these other hits too; Ral was an undervalued “rock ‘ roll” star! Columbia, too, is an undervalued “star.” Turns out Ral, too, was mis-managed by the self-serving motives of people who were supposed to be taking care of him and his future. His manager “had effectively managed to block Ral’s career path.”
