CEDC’s Columbia Downtown Master Plan revealed at meeting

charrette

In March, the Columbia Economic Development Corporation invited certain groups of people to share the “charrette presentation.” Not everyone, just certain groups of people. Click on the graphic above to view that presentation.

This evening everyone was invited, via an article in the daily newspaper, and subsequent shares at Cole Umber’s news site and this one, to a Columbia Downtown Master Plan presentation at Perfect Settings in downtown Columbia.

A crowd of less than 100 and more than 50 assembled to be taken through the presentation (click here to see the presentation) – the meeting began at 6:00 pm and ended just after 8:15 pm.

Two councillors attended, as did the mayor, and a number of recognizable persona from the borough.

The consultants emphasized the need to collaborate and move to a set of collective visions. The presentation set a number of aggressive target achievement dates.

There’s still no mention of the charrette nor the presentation at the CEDC Website and no facebook post since February.

Yet collaboration, coordination and communication were mentioned frequently tonight.

  1. The presentation was awesome! Great Strategies. But now for Boro to Act???? Strategy #6 under physical improvements I feel responsible residents and property owners have been addressing. It’s the Boro who needs to help when called upon!
Strategy #9 under physical improvements “down the road” part 2. This has been an ongoing battle for 2 years that I felt the need to envolment myself and friends from all 3 Rivertowns. But people should know this battle is much older than just 2 years! All I can say is wake up Columbia! You have been presented with a plan that this improvement could have been listed as an Early Win!!!! I’m asked over and over and over why Council don’t act, why does Leo Lutz battle this? I have no answer except, Go Ask Them!!!! Thank you Mr Long for sharing my concerns around the 2 blocks of Historic South Second Street!

  2. i remember when this little burg was thriving…if we could make it mandatory that landlords refurbish the apartments and so be able to charge higher rents,we could get more people to buy in columbia as well as businesses would feel better about opening here

  3. All landlords need to continue to maintain all rental units in this Boro! They need to be inspected regularly especially the ones that take our tax dollars. Columbia is known as the town ” Pick And Choose”. That is why so many inconsistencies run rampant thru the Boro. The renters need to be made to upkeep the appearance of their apartment and even perhaps the exterior street scape of the building. Inspections and fines for the owners, educate the renters. All income levels deserve a decent quality of life! Columbia step up to the plate!!!!
