today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!
Quote for today… “The U.S. Army was founded on 14 June 1775, when the Continental Congress authorized enlistment of riflemen to serve the United Colonies for one year.“
- Noticed OMA & S Properties, LLC has acquired three properties in Columbia according to today’s LNP – Always Lancaster. Curiously, the registration with the State’s Department of State Website shows an address of 29 North Fourth Street, Columbia and the County’s property ownership Website lists the home address as Great Neck, NY. Confused, yet?
- Letter writer says Lancaster hospital charged “$11,600 for a routine outpatient procedure” for which “Medicare would have only allowed $1,800.” – NewsLanc
- Even a follow-up inspection fails to reduce the number of violations at the Sunoco in Manheim – read this in the weekly eating places food inspections at Lancaster OnLine.
- A complete listing of all inspections at food serving facilities in Lancaster, York counties and the entire state, except those in Columbia, are listed at the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Website. “Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. Inspection results are posted as inspections are conducted, and only represent eating and drinking establishments and retail food establishments that fall under the inspection jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, and those county and local health departments which have elected to post results.”
- Of course, if you’re trying to see the results of any food serving establishment in Columbia, you’re out of luck – Columbia’s codes folks choose not to share that information, if it exists, unless a right-to-know request is submitted.

please submit a right to known request on behalf of your readers for publishing results of food inspections. Isn’t no publishing them a violation of some law? The general public becomes suspicious when public information is withheld.
Good thoughts, Casper … here’s the issue with right-to-know requests for restaurant inspections in Columbia; someone’s got to pay for them.
If the municipality would send inspection results for posting at the State Department of Agriculture’s Website as all municipalities are supposed to do, there’d be no need for right-to-know submissions. And everyone, every where, would be able to see any dining establishment’s inspection results.
Since Columbia news, views & reviews has to pay for restaurant inspections, as they are, in Columbia, the borough, it seems to us, is your culprit, by willfully withholding information from its citizens and guests.
interesting observation, one would have to question the reasoning behind not publishing results. Something smells fishy and it isn’t the mayflies. What is the name of investigation reporter believe it is Harper. Would like to contact him as well as borough council. Can you provide a contact number, etc for Mr Harper?
Think you may be talking about Ron Harper; try looking here:
