It could happen and it evidently did

Back in early May Columbia news, views & reviews posted these:

  • It could happen! – “Often, it’s one of the most trusted people in the church who’s pilfering from the collection plate, or diverting funds from the church budget or investment accounts.” – Brotherhood Mutual Insurance Company Website

And, gollee … Lancaster Online has this: “Columbia police have charged a church assistant with stealing more than $10,000 from Holy Trinity Catholic Church.

Wonder why we write so often about “those trusted” people?

BE SURE to read the comments following the article, too.

  1. This story was posted on the Facebook page “You Know You’re From Columbia if…”. However, it was quickly removed when the administrator was contacted by a protector of the “accused”. You know….it’s the good old boys protecting their own. Had that been a resident that was not born here surely the article would have remained indefinitely. Such predictable behavior anymore.

  2. Yeah, well as the King said: “Truth is like the sun. You can shut it out for a time, but it ain’t goin’ away.” – Elvis Presley

  3. My oh my, year another person stealing from a church . It baffles me as to why people would do this. Do they not care about the shame it places upon them and their family.

  4. Look at it the way they do: Nobody’ll ever suspect me, besides I need money. And, people who take money seldom go to jail – they just get to pay it back at $50 a month or so. It’s a helluva’ deal.
