today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!
Quote for today… “You should be over here by St. Peter’s apt it’s terrible those fireworks can’t be legal” – one of the commenters about the illegal fireworks around the borough at a facebook page.
- Inconsiderate neighbors down the block | Evidently there are scads of them in town as the facebook comments here and here list lots of complaints about the weekend’s illegal fireworks and public safety.
- In York County, why does Mickey D’s allow their restaurants to be so mis-managed? – The York Dispatch
- Just two questions: How’s that Chinese place on Lititz Pike stay open and who eats there? See the long list of food-preparation and serving violations in weekly eating places food inspections at Lancaster Online.
- A complete listing of all inspections at food serving facilities in Lancaster, York counties and the entire state, except those in Columbia, are listed at the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture Website. “Inspections are a “snapshot” of the day and time of the inspection. Also, at the time of the inspection, violations are recorded but are often corrected on the spot prior to the inspector leaving the facility. Inspection results are posted as inspections are conducted, and only represent eating and drinking establishments and retail food establishments that fall under the inspection jurisdiction of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, and those county and local health departments which have elected to post results.”
- Of course, if you’re trying to see the results of any food serving establishment in Columbia, you’re out of luck – Columbia’s codes folks choose not to share that information, if it exists, unless a right-to-know request is submitted.

Yep can’t even celebrate a holiday without complainers!
Personally I love watching neighbors and other views from my porch of fireworks.
If you like I can send pics I took last night.
And in this area all was quiet by curfew!
Negative,,, stick to facebook!
The police have more important things than fireworks sold at roadstands everywhere!

Bob, Bob, Bob, there u go again supporting activities that are either unpopular or illegal. Fireworks are not legal in the Columbia Borough, yet u “brag them up” taking pictures and offering to share them with anyone who is interested. If u like fireworks why support those that are illegal, why not attend those that are legal and sanctioned? Are u a person who would promote support for something like a “historic alley.” I’m lost for words to describe your mental state, certainly warped.
As for Casper, I’m friendly, may not be a borough resident, but know I’m watching your actions. Some Casper advise, ” One needs to talk less talk and act more, particularly in an astute manner.” Bobby be a good boy and stop downing the Mayor and other town leaders. Remember there r still open seats for many committed in the borough, sign up and do something positive, don’t withdrawal this time. Your intelligent decision making could be helpful. Time to man up Bobby.
Of course it’s the stalker, or is it now Doctor? Either way I’m flattered you find me pretty!
Many things are illegal in the Boro. Pick and choose is the name of the game.
Did I miss Columbia’s fireworks?
Wonder what your childhood memories of 4th of July were? I’m sure all by the book.
Poor neglected Casper.
Well last I checked,, I do have freedom of speech.
And of course everyone is entitled to opinions.
Man Up? Interesting choice of words, hmmmm
Now Casper you do something for Columbia, I do plenty.
But of course you know that.
Now wipe your eyes and back to the playground you go!!!
Oh but beware, the playgrounds are nothing like my memory serves me.

God Bless You
Childhood memories of fireworks, there were none in the country of my childhood.
As for playgrounds we had government “sponsored” ones, only the elite athletes were invited to them. Some of this background is why I express concern when you down play the leadership of your community. Perhaps you take your freedoms too lightly rather than expressing sincere gratitude for them.
You express some messages signing off with poof, what is its meaning? Have you always been an inhabitant of Columbia or have you had the opportunity to travel to other countries?
Casper is in NYC, business adventure, I anticipate our commuikay.
Inhabitant???
Odd use of words.
Born here, raised here, involved my whole life in all three rivertowns.
Owned a business for 16 years here.
And now property owner for last 8 years.
My freedom is FREEDOM!
Now let’s hear an
Bout you?
This is tiresome.
What are you doing stalking me?
What do you do for Columbia???
Old boy school ways sometimes are the only way.

Here is a quote for Bob and Casper: “Activism is my rent for living on the planet.” – Alice Walker
I try to be active, you’ve witnessed how the meetings of the whole are handled.
I’m amazed at how attacks and gestures are overlooked.
Yeah I’m medicated but even that doesn’t help when harassed by elected officials or attendees of these meetings.
Thank you for your constructive critism.
And I mean that.
I see your active all over town with no recognition.
Thays how I wanted to be.
But after 2 years on the same subject, promises made by council and not kept.
Phone calls from elected officials to a prominate woman that dedicated her life to this town, enough is enough.
Again it’s not an excuse it’s just my explanation of total frustration and disgust with the behavior of just a few elected officials
If enough citizens came to public meetings and spoke out, things could change. Unfortunately, most people have no interest in getting involved. They just lay back and take the b.s., and it cost them dearly. That’s true in Columbia and nearly everywhere else in the good old United States.
