“Delinquent collections have increased over the past few years as a result of the City’s stepped-up effort to collect delinquent taxes and fees.”

That’s just one of the many plans one western Pennsylvania town incorporated into its elimination of “financially distressed status.”

  1. Clairton, PA, the city where the characters in the movie “The Deer Hunter” lived. That great film came out in 1978. Steel mills still drove the economy of Clairton then, but today the citizens of the city are largely unemployed, as the mills are gone in this community along the Monongahela River near Pittsburgh.

    It should come as no surprise that there are many delinquent taxes in Clairton. After all, if you lived in Clairton with little or no employment and had a family with children to raise, which would you do first and foremost? Why, of course, pay the important things: food, clothing, housing, heating, healthcare, and so on. If you had to not pay your taxes, because of the above, I think you would agree that you would do the same thing.
