… and Columbia’s made it into the MUNICIPAL BRIEFS with items from the March 14 Borough Council meeting – most of which have been reported at Columbia news, views & reviews and Columbia Spy.

Nothing about Columbia in SCHOOL BRIEFS, though. You can get complete, “transparent” information about the school district’s actions at the district’s Website. For instance, in the February Minutes, you can see that:

  • “The Board recognizes the value of public comment by residents of the district on educational issues. Each person wishing to address the Board will be limited to five (5) minutes to make their comments. After being recognized by the presiding officer, the speaker must preface their comments by an announcement of their name, address and group affiliation if appropriate. All comments shall be directed to the presiding officer. The presiding officer may interrupt or terminate a participant’s statement when the statement is too lengthy, personally directed, abusive, obscene or irrelevant.”
  • The Board doesn’t believe the context of the Manheim Township School District’s actions about its lack of transparency. This Lancaster Online article shares, “The announcement should include the date and topic of the session, beyond a one-word explanation.” Yet February’s minutes show:”President Strickler announced the following executive sessions: February 3, 2016 – Personnel and February 4, 2016 – Personnel.” One word answers!
