News release that actually alerts people before the fact

Night Work Starting Sunday on Route 462 in Lancaster City

Harrisburg, PA – A milling and paving operation starts on Sunday night, April 3, on Route 462 through the City of Lancaster. Route 462 is also known locally as King Street. The  operation will run Sunday and the following weeknights from 6 PM to 6 AM the next  morning on the 2.1-mile portion of Route 462 between West Street on the west end of the  city and Broad Street on the east end.

Motorists are advised to be alert to this operation and to slow down when approaching and
traveling through the work zone – for their safety as well as the safety of the construction crews.

“Milling” is the mechanical removal by a milling machine of the old asphalt surface of the road. In this situation on Route 462, the milling machine will cut away a depth of about 2 ½-inches depth of the old road surface. The road will then be checked for any further pavement repairs that need to be made.

When the repairs have been completed, a paving operation will follow to
resurface the road with new blacktop.

This milling and paving work is part of a construction project that started last summer to improve Route 462 through the city. The project includes road base repair, minor drainage improvements, and curb work related to requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as the milling and resurfacing work. PennDOT has contracted New  Enterprise Stone & Lime Co., Inc. of New Enterprise, Pennsylvania, to conduct the highway improvement project.

The contract price of $2,007,169 also includes work that was done on Route 23. The  contract completion date for the project is late June of this year.
