Today’s news and information gleanings from here and there.

Today’s quote … “According to a recent Harris poll, 51 percent of full-time workers earning less than $50,000 live paycheck to paycheck. A brief illness, temporary injury or car breakdown can be enough to jeopardize a job, wipe out savings and threaten homelessness. .” – From today’s  LNP – Always Lancaster page one article.

Another quote … “I think that’s a reflection on our township. When people feel it’s running properly, and we’re not getting those requests for information, because there is a level of transparency that people are comfortable with.” – West Manchester Township manager, Kelly Kelch, in this York Daily Record/York Sunday News article.

And a third quote …The police don’t want to be bothered by that. An adult threatens my 12 year old and the response was from the police and I quote “we are tired of coming up here dealing with this.” That’s the ones who are protecting us. Such a joke!! – From a thread following a post about trash left by Club Good Times’ patrons at this facebook page – You know you’re from Columbia PA if…

  • Life’s ironies | LNP – Always Lancaster‘s lead story today is about one family’s struggle with poverty. A second page one article is about corporate welfare: Government tax credits for Rock Lititz though, “Economists, however, tend to be skeptical of state subsidies to particular companies or industries.”

  • December 11 – “Stop by the gazebo in Columbia’s Locust Street Park at 6:30 pm to hear the classic ’Twas the Night Before Christmas presented by Lisa Greybill, librarian at Columbia Public Library. Linger in the park for the lighting of the town Christmas tree at 7 pm and another visit from St. Nick.” – More at the Chamber Website

Click here to go to the state’s Website of inspections … and the listing of the violations at each location. The statewide directory lists inspections for all municipalities in York County and Lancaster County.… except those in Columbia – Columbia persists in having its own inspection system with its own forms and inspection items – rather than the one used statewide.
