Columbia, PA is a town on the Susquehanna River, originally called “Wright’s Ferry”; the town was founded in 1726.  You can learn more about Columbia’s storied history at Wikipedia; the Borough of Columbia Website; the Lancaster County Historical Society Website … or you can do an extended Internet search.

A locally operated alternative news and information source, Columbia news, views & reviews will try to remember that nothing contributes to the well-being of a community more than a balanced, objective and consistent local news and information source.

Columbia news, views & reviews will try to be a community bulletin board containing accurate, fair news reporting, thoughtful insights and useful information that every reader in the community will find valuable.

Our goal is to celebrate what’s good about Columbia and its shareholders — including the idiosyncrasies that make them uniquely attractive — while calling attention, thoughtfully and fearlessly, with humor and without pomposity, to what can and should be improved.

Columbia news, views & reviews  will be open to contributions from the community (including quality writing and photography submissions) and seeks to provide a big picture view of important issues. One of our goals is to update this site regularly.

The contributors of articles, stories, columns, photographs and observations presented here are people who are passionate about government transparency, rule of law, equal treatment, human dignity, history and community development and opportunity. We encourage and welcome comments, suggestions and discussion.

Among our goals is the promise to deliver information that is relevant, compelling and useful for Columbia’s shareholders. We recognize and applaud this other local online information source that has the interests of Columbia’s citizens and shareholders at heart: Columbia Spy.

This community news and information resource is edited by someone who thinks that Columbia is a jewel of a community. While Brian Long is not a Columbia native, he has lived in and around Columbia on several occasions. He sees Columbia as a community that has community pride, really nice people, incredible physical attractions, a superb location and enormous potential as a great place to live. And those are the reasons he is beginning this news and information resource … to reinforce “well-being of a community with a balanced, objective and consistent local news and information source.”

Brian’s personal history encompasses decades of enthusiasm as a knight-errant. His experiences include a long love affair with “newspapering;” two active-duty tours in Viet Nam followed by service in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard (he retired as a sergeant major); some adjunct teaching at Franklin & Marshall and Lebanon Valley Colleges;  newspaper transparency training in post-Soviet nations; operating a mission-focused critical incident management training business and a brief stint as the market house manager. He tries to practice the “Be Safe – Be Nice – Do Good!” code.

NOTE:  Among the host’s terms for this information source is this:

  • Personal attack blogs: Blogs with the primary purpose of attacking an individual or group of individuals are not welcome. We have a particularly low tolerance for anonymous bloggers who make personal attacks without standing by their words with their real name.

  1. I would just like to ask and receive a honest answer to a question. If you are on the snow emergency route and follow the rules to move your vehicles or be towed/ fined why aren’t the vehicles that made NO attempt to move towed. We all fought the storm, many moved their cars but MANY didn’t. I realize the borough my not have the monies for towing but will those who think the rules dont apply to them be fined. It makes the honest citizens who try to do the right thing feel like why bother, if nothing going to happen to those who do nothing, just asking.
    Thank you
    Columbia proud

  2. We doubt that there’ll be fines. There is an old adage that says, “No Good Deed Goes Unpunished.”

Sadly, it appears the scofflaws get away with not abiding by the societal expectations.

  3. You say that comments attacking people will not be tolerated yet you nicknamed a deadly virus after our president who had nothing to do with this. This is cyber bullying and fake news. If you want to be a reputable news reporting why don’t you start acting professional. This is so childish Grow up report the news without embellishing the facts for personal gain.

  4. You are the biggest fake news out there. I will make sure and spread the word about what a sleezy piece of crap your “news reporting” is. I’m ashamed that you are from the same state even country I live in.
