  • The York Sunday News and York Daily Record published this report this week: “Teacher salary numbers fuel the debate: Overpaid or underpaid? – Some observers frown upon salary hikes amid economic turmoil. Others say teachers deserve more. The numbers are online to help you decide.” The article points their readers to the online database where you can find a listing of all the salaries for all the professional staffs of all the public school systems in the state. We think this is a really good example of “transparency in government.” [EDITOR’S NOTE: Great job, York Daily Record and York Sunday News!]
  • According to State Representative Ryan’s Aument’s e-newsletter, “The House Labor and Industry Committee held a hearing this week to discuss legislation that would use occupational wage data as a means to establish prevailing wage rates in Pennsylvania. The Prevailing Wage Act of 1961 requires workers on public projects costing more than $25,000 to be paid the prevailing wage in their region. How that rate of pay is determined was not part of the original act. House Bill 1367 would use occupational wage data collected by the Pennsylvania Bureau of Labor and Statistics on a county-by-county basis twice each year to determine a true measure of the prevailing “minimum” wage. House Bill 1367 is awaiting consideration in the House Labor and Industry Committee.”
