country roads musings … part 4

Thoughts and images while on daily walks.

IRONVILLE PIKE … On one of the Columbia Gateways, the newly re-paved road surface glistens with brightly painted center lines and left and right side of the road “fog lines.”

RIVER PARK … ANOTHER GATEWAY… Inconsistencies confound people and send messages. Weekends are busier times at the River Park; we wonder whether there should be more trash receptacles near the boat ramp area. Here’s what happens when the amount of trash exceeds the repository. Across the park (towards the Water Company property), the trash can was nearly empty. Wonder whether there should be more trash receptacles where there is more use?

Surveillance cameras, no doubt, have captured the images of the folks abusing the receptacle capacity above and the “perps” who left their calling cards (below). “Lutz said he hopes the 17 cameras will discourage people from overfilling public receptacles with household trash or vandalizing borough property.” (Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era)

Visitors also notice another inconsistency. Where are the trailers? Where is the enforcement? Where is the consistency?

Is this a new parking area?

Blue tarp adds a “post-Katrina” look! Just what visitors’ do not need to see. This was there for several days earlier this week; gone yesterday! Thanks.

YARDLEY SOAPS AT HINKLE’S

One of the real treasures of Columbia is Hinkle’s Pharmacy/store/restaurant. We have found that one of the offerings that we like in the store is the selection of Yardley soaps. Good stuff, this is!

VISION OF THE REAPER – Had a vision of the Grim Reaper while on the walk/run last Sunday.

Only difference was that the Grim Reaper we saw coming at us (ROFL – right of the fog line) was a older woman, yakking on a cellphone, smoking a cigarette and driving (yep, you guessed it) a black Buick. This was the pentultimate Grim Reaper!

HEAVEN’S GATEWAY … We wonder whether everyone has ever experienced the sheer wonder and joy of adventure in cornfields. Here, we believe is what the “gateway to heaven” must be. Lying in the middle of a cornfield looking up. As a kid, didn’t you just love that?

 Looking down the row …

June has finally arrived? Wasn’t the weather absolutely gorgeous on Tuesday and Wednesday. Brilliant skies, “to-die-for” cool days with virtually no humidity. Great for those walks. Here are some other things we saw:

CUTE LITTLE GUY

BLACK HELICOPTER (cue the conspiracy theory audio) checking power lines.
