  • Letters to the editors writers say: “vote out unwise local governments” and “Does Lancaster County need so many school boards?” – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era
  • You have to pay to play! Today’s Intelligencer Journal editorial questions one school district’s increased activities fees: “Activities fees in this state were exceedingly rare prior to the economic downturn. But a survey conducted by the Pennsylvania School Boards Association found that the percentage of public schools charging for athletics and extracurricular activities rose from 13 percent in 2010 to 30 percent this school year. That rate is expected to grow in the future. And even though pay-to-play has gained acceptance, school districts continue to cut athletic programs.”
  • POLICE LOG:COLUMBIA: Jonathan Ray Fink, 27, of Middletown, was charged with simple assault (domestic violence) in an incident on Cloverton Drive on Friday, borough police said. Fink was arraigned and committed to Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $10,000 cash bail.” – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era
  • “The Red Rose Transit Authority is offering free rides for bicyclists this week during National Bike to Work Week. As a rule, passengers who board RRTA buses with a bike must pay the regular adult fare. This week, however, their ride will be free if they choose to bring their bike on board the bus for any part of their trip.   • Lancaster Catholic High School honored 10 people recently with its Alumni Citation Award, earned for having distinguished themselves and bringing honor to the school. Honored for outstanding professional achievement were Donald A. Nikolaus, class of 1960; Thomas E. Lichty, class of 1959; Carol Lichty, class of 1959 and Christopher R. West, class of 1988. Receiving the award for service to humanity were David Z. Abel, class of 1976; Michael D. Tafelski, class of 1984 and Theresa M. Kauffman Tafelski, class of 1984. Cited for their service to Lancaster Catholic were Patrick G. Carr, class of 1981; Joseph W. McCaskey, class of 1964 and T. Clark Tomlinson, class of 1971.” – Lancaster Intelligencer Journal/New Era
