today’s news and information gleanings from here and there!

Quote for today As a Vanderbilt fan, I find it difficult to feel bad for Franklin or Donovan, or any of the players they misdirected to Penn State. A bunch of clowns led by the biggest clown of all. Ask Franklin about the Tanzania trip sometime.” – comment following this harbinger of Penn State’s Coach Franklin’s dumping of his “O-Coordinator following the weekend massacre.

  • More community collaboration and cohesive, consistent communication | straight from the Charette! There are lots of sites that post activities happening in and around Columbia. Sadly, it seems, there’s no collaborative, cohesive, consistent place for citizens and visitors to find the activities and events. For instance, there’s this activity: “Santa Claus is coming to Columbia on Saturday, December 5th. Parade starts at 8:30 am…at Route 441..across S.3rd Street, turning left onto Locust Street then turning right into S. 10th Street and ending at Viggies Fire House. Breakfast at 9:00 to 12:00 … at Viggies Fire House. Children ages 3 & under are free. Adults $5. Sponsored by CCFD Auxiliary Columbia QRS.” posted at a facebook site. Columbia news, views & reviews has been unsuccessful finding any reference to this event at the Borough Website, the QRS or Columbia Consolidated Fire links at the Borough Website or at Hinkle’s events page. There is reference at the Chamber Website and Columbia Spy.
  • There’s also this note of non-collaboration and non-coordination with a comment about the facebook post, too: Yea it came along with the QRS beg for money mail. I always loved the Santa parade, but since it’s been posted, I’ll remind everyone that CCFD is no longer an active fire department and there is ZERO accounting for the use of any money they make. It’s certainly not used for the Columbia Borough Fire Department.”
