Heed this warning: TODAY WILL BE REALLY HOT! “Dangerous heat expected this weekend” – FOX43-TV
Former US President John F. Kennedy noticed that “the regional chamber of commerce, the New England Council, had a thoughtful slogan: ‘A rising tide lifts all the boats.’” The packed parking lots at the Black Olive and Hinkles last night add local credence to that slogan. Yesterday, Lancaster Online had a business brief on the Black Olive’s opening.
This very nice photo of The Bridge comes from a “You know you’re from Columbia PA if…” facebook post. Here’s one of the comments in a thread there: “You can tell that Columbia is responsible for the upkeep of the lights on the span, or so I’ve been told. I believe that because there are three lights out on the bridge span itself and four lights out on the Columbia side of the bridge in the entrance area. Those that are working in the entrance area also are very dim. Whether that’s by choice to save money, or whether it’s because there’s something wrong there also, I have no idea. These lights have been out for well over 6 months and nothing is being done to get them back in order. I gave them the benefit of the doubt during the winter months thinking that they wanted to wait for better weather, or even perhaps they were waiting for materials. But true to form, evidently It’s just Columbia’s way of handling things. All the lights are working fine on the Wrightsville end of the span, by the way. Having the old lighting system restored was a great move by the communities and re-establishes the former beauty of the original conditions. We should, however, give more attention to retaining that beauty and history. If I’m wrong about Columbia’s role in maintaining the lighting of the span, please let me know. I hope that I am.”
