  • “Every school district and area vocational-technical schools are required to develop a District Comprehensive Plan and file it with the Department of Education.” Columbia’s Revised Comprehensive Plan was introduced due to the number of administrative transitions at the school.”
  • Fewer than five people (interested citizens / parents / residents) attended last night’s Columbia Borough School District’s Board of Directors’ Committee of the Whole meeting. Convened at 7:00 pm by vice president of the board, Kathleen Hohenadel, all of the elected public servants serving on the board were in attendance except Leo Lutz and Iris Garrido. Board president Cole Knighton attended via telephone. The Superintendent and Director of Operations also were present.The board addressed the items on the agenda. [NOTE: A more descriptive agenda was available for meeting attendees at the meeting.]The Board approved agreements for “early and dual enrollment” programs. “Our (Thaddeus Stevens College’s) High School Dual Enrollment program offers qualifying students the ability to participate in a ‘concurrent enrollment’ program that supports their educational preparation and career advancement. The Dual Enrollment Program provides a high school senior with an enriched and advanced placement educational experience designed to aid their transition, upon graduation into a post secondary institution or directly into the workforce after their high school graduation.” – Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology Website

    Penn Manor’s dual enrollment program – “Dual enrollment is an opportunity for academically college-ready students to take a college class. Typically the college credit counts for  high school elective credit in an area which complements the course offerings at Penn Manor. Several schools offer dual enrollment credit at a reduced rate to local students.

    Director of operations, Thomas Strickler, was appointed Right-To-Know Officer for the District.

    The district is working with the technological support team at Eastern Lancaster County School District to incorporate video-conferencing into future meetings.

    The meeting was adjourned at 7:38 pm as the board assembled for a separate meeting to consider and discuss personnel issues.
