  • Tax collector resigns – “You don’t often see the government actually turn away taxpayer money. Unless, of course, you live in Columbia. Residents who tried to pay their 2012 property-tax bill there this week were told to hold onto their money, for now, as the borough struggles to cover for the abrupt resignation of its tax collector last weekend. Tom Vecchiolli, who was elected to a four-year term in November 2009, notified borough officials that he was resigning the post at the height of tax season, a move that took many by surprise.” – LancasterOnLine
  • “Gorman Distributors announces the grand opening of their new property on March 22nd at 2pm. Gorman Distributors, a family owned business that has been operating since 1963, has recently purchased the property at 1201 Manor Street, Columbia.  The property was vacant since 2008 and underwent four months of renovations.  Gorman Distributors moved into the property in late January and is finishing the renovations while occupied.  The family is excited about their new and permanent home in Columbia.  The building is going to give the business much needed space to expand their vending distribution operations.  Gorman Distributors, serves five Pennsylvania counties with their trucks and 48 states through UPS ground.” – Gorman Distributors press release

  • “Marietta residents battle to stop approved street project – “Marietta residents on West Fairview Avenue will pay thousands of dollars toward a project some call ‘exorbitant,’ ‘outrageous’ and ‘wholly destructive.’ Borough officials say the street is in great disrepair and should have been fixed years ago.
