“hold-it-in-your-hands” newspapers | Once, nearly every borough in Lancaster County had its own newspaper. Columbia, Strasburg, Quarryville, Ephrata, Lititz, New Holland and Manheim are some of the community newspapers we remember. The New Holland Clarion printed Garden Spot High School’s high school newspaper. Today, only Elizabethtown, Ephrata and Lititz have weekly newspapers; all are owned by Steinman Communications.
March 1, 2011 | On the initial Columbia news, views & reviews post we said this: “But Columbia should have its own local news and information source. And while this fledgling on-line effort is not a typical traditional newspaper, it is a step in that direction. As we go forward, we hope to produce and distribute a free news and information source; Columbia news, views & reviews will be the next step … a compact, abbreviated ‘hold-it-in-your-hands’ local news and information resource for Columbia.” Producing and distributing a “hold-it-in-your-hands” newspaper is not an inexpensive endeavor, and we have not yet won the lottery so that “next step” remains a “next step” for us. But … perhaps, for someone else … ?
