Sunday’s news items [transparency? (not so much); food inspections & more] – 4/7/2019

When transparency is not | The lead article in today’s LNP – Always Lancaster is about the non-transparency of many of Pennsylvania’s state-level agencies. The article says, “Fewer than 1 in 4 requests for open records were granted in full last year. It continues by stating, “While it remains unclear how many of the denials were justified under the law — many records-seekers do not appeal or take on the expense of going to court — the low rate of absolute success raises questions about government transparency and the effectiveness of Pennsylvania’s landmark open-records rewrite 10 years ago, which presumes most records are open to public inspection.”

Seeking firefighters | “Do you have questions about the application process and hiring process? What does it take to become a LCBF firefighter? Come to an information session to find out more about being a career firefighter with the Lancaster City Bureau of Fire.” – Lancaster City facebook page

York County’s Inspections

Click here to go to the state’s Website of inspections … and the listing of the violations at each location. The statewide directory lists inspections for all municipalities in York County and Lancaster County.

… except those in Columbia – Columbia persists in having its own inspection system with its own forms and inspection items – rather than the one used statewide. It is another instance of a purposeful lack of transparency.

  1. Trump didn’t complete his sentence: “Our country is full [of what makes the grass grow green.”]

  2. Fond memories of “Bridge on the River Kwai” A great motion picture and the first movie I watched in color on TV.
